José has always worked as a farmer, not only to help his parents but also to provide for his own family. He became a single father of two children after his wife passed away. He also has a third child who does not live with him. Fatima (11 years old) and Daniela (11) live with him, but they were at school at the time of the interview.
Their house is in terrible condition, as it is made out of mud, rocks and bamboo sticks. It was built almost at the same time his daughters were born, but it has become a dangerous place for them to live.
