Julia del Carmen Guzman de Mejia

33 years old / Homemaker

She wakes up at 4 a.m. to prepare breakfast and lunch for her partner, Jorge, who leaves for work early in the morning. Then, she spends the rest of the morning taking care of the household chores. Julia has two children: Josué, who is 16, and Helen, an 11-year-old girl. Both live with Julia's ex-husband but visit her during the week. The house where she currently lives is made of mud and wood, but it's in poor condition. During the rainy season, water leaks through the roof and walls, soaking all of her belongings.

"I felt a lot of happiness. We even cried tears of joy when we found out we would have a new house because the situation we are living in is not easy, we are very grateful to God, and we wish many blessings to the donors because this gift they are giving us is not something just anyone is willing to do for people in need."
